My names Audrey, I am a 17 year old high school student. Two nights ago, I was dragged out of this car by one of my best friends. Four of us were driving home, completely safely and legally, from dinner, and we hit the dirt on the side of a hilly road. We skidded across the road and then flipped over twice. As we slid to a final stop, all four of us were dangling by our seat belts upside down. We all frantically attempted to get out of the car, scared of an explosion or another collision. The driver kicked her door open and rolled out. After many attempts, my friend and I in the back seats unbuckled our seat belts, she kicked a door open and dragged me out by my legs. With my torso still in this car, I reached for my best friend in the passenger seat and pulled her out my door with one arm. We all ran across the street, flagged down help, and finally called 911. I’m using this traumatic experience as a plea for safety. If any one of us had not been seat belted, we would’ve lost our lives. We came out of this experience with only bruises and cuts, when it could’ve been so much worse. THIS is why you wear a seat belt. Safety matters.
